Allow me to share with you a delightful recipe that I recently used to host a dinner party with some dear friends that I had not connected with in quite some time. My intention is to establish a tradition, a cadence of sorts, of breaking bread together more frequently to strengthen our bond and deepen our connection.
Baked Ziti Recipe.
- 1 lb Italian sausage (crumbled)
- 1 lb Penne or Ziti.
- 1 tbsp extra olive oil.
- 32 oz homemade or store-bought marinara.
- 1/4 cup sliced fresh basil leaves.
- 1 cup Mozzarella.
- 1 cup Ricotta.
- 1 cup grated Parmesan.
- 1/2 tsp dried Basil.
- 1/2 tsp dried Oregano.
- Pinch crush black pepper.
To start, preheat your oven to 350°F. Cook the pasta in a large pot of water until it is al dente. Drain the pasta and toss it with some olive oil to keep it from sticking together while you prepare the sauce.
In a separate pan, heat up some olive oil and brown the sausage, breaking it up into smaller chunks as it cooks. Once it's cooked, drain any excess fat and add the marinara sauce and fresh basil. Mix it well and set it aside.
In a bowl, mix together the ricotta, Parmesan, basil, oregano, and black pepper. Combine this mixture with the sausage marinara blend and mix it well. Pour the mixture into a baking dish, leaving about an inch from the top for the mozzarella. Sprinkle the mozzarella on top of the mixture.
Bake the dish in the oven for 20-25 minutes or until the top is lightly browned and the cheese is melted. Allow it to cool for 10 minutes before serving.
